Frequently Asked Questions
Why did the UW Alumni Association create UW Impact?
In late 2009, as Washington State’s economic environment continued to negatively impact the State’s budget in general and higher education funding in particular, the 24-member UW Alumni Association Board of Trustees decided to explore opportunities to engage in advocacy efforts to support higher education and the UW.
If I’m not a UW alum or official UWAA member, may I use UW Impact?
Yes — UW Impact is a resource that can be used by anyone who recognizes the value and impact of the UW and wishes to communicate that message to others. Simply sign up now to start using our legislative advocacy tools.
Is this program about lobbying?
No, we’re primarily about civic advocacy. First and foremost, this program is about education and communication. Learning more about the UW, sharing this information with friends and family, voicing your support with your elected officials, attending community conversations – there are a number of effective ways to get involved and support the UW.
What if I don’t agree with the position that the university is taking on an issue?
UW Impact recognizes that the community of UW alumni and supporters is diverse and represents a wide range of social, cultural and political perspectives. UW Impact currently does not take sides on specific legislation, candidates or issues, but broadly supports the cause of state funding for higher education.
Do my UWAA Membership dues pay for UW Impact?
